Message from the National President

It is my esteemed pleasure as the 20th National President to invite you to Miami, Florida and to Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated’s 82nd Anniversary National Convention. Yes, it has been 82 years since our founding and in this 82nd year of the 21st Century, we are witnesses to the history of a nation where an African American was elected to the highest office in the land.  This phase of American history will ultimately change the face of America. Several of these changes will be reflected in the deliberations of four days of total Iota involvement: learning, planning, leading, and strategizing for a stronger Iota.

Here, in this exciting city of Miami, an august body of women from across the country will gather to “seize the moment”, to showcase their enthusiasm, their vision, their commitment, and their passion for a greater organization. Leadership workshops will reflect a business agenda of utilizing and promoting leadership, increasing membership, addressing current issues in health care, the economy, inequities, education, etc.

I commend Gamma Alpha, the host Chapter, and the National Executive Board, with the support of my sorors in the Southern Region, for this exciting forum which will also serve to strengthen the bond of sisterhood; bring together our auxiliaries, share networking affiliates’ targeted areas and collective strategies, and showcase the wealth of a community where expert speakers will bring challenges of the 21st Century.

I look forward to four days of sharing in the “old Iota spirit” and I am certain that this 82nd Anniversary National Convention will be informative, entertaining, and successful and that we all will leave with a new spirit of unity and sisterhood.

Sisterly with love,

Doris Browning Austin, Ph.D.
20th National President
