2011 Honorees

Dr. Denise AlexanderDr. Denise Alexander – Dr. Denise Alexander, private general dentistry practice and founder of Optimal Smile, office located in Berkeley for 24 years. She received her BA from SF State, BS from UCSF in Dental Materials, a doctorate in Dental Science from UCSF.

She was named 1991 Business Woman of the Year by the California Group, Oakland; she was featured in the 1993 Calendar of African American History and listed in “Who’s Who” in 1995”. She has spent the last few years developing Optimal Smile.

 

Cheryl BroussardCheryl Broussard – Award-winning author, Washington Post best-selling author, magazine and online columnist, writer/producer, and motivational speaker, Cheryl is one of America’s leading expert on business and personal finance.Cheryl is a contributing editor to several major magazines. She writes a monthly column for City New Ohio. She is the resident personal financial advisor on the nationally syndicated Michael Baisden radio show. Cheryl is a former personal financial advisor on CNNFN, CNN & Co., and CBS Marketwatch.

 

Frankie GilletteFrankie Gillette – Frankie Jacobs Gillette, retired government administrator, social worker, and educator, is President/Owner of G+G Enterprises, a meeting and events planning business.

She is a graduate of Hampton University (B. S.) and Howard University (M.S.W.), a Certified Social Worker, NASW; State of California Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Marriage Counselor; a Registered Meeting Planner, International Society of Meeting Planners; and holds a State of California Life Teaching Credential. She has been recognized by several organizations for her achievements and civic contributions.

 

Barbara WardBarbara Ward – Ms. Barbara Ward was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of Women and Minority Veteran Affairs on May 24, 2007. She was previously appointed as Bureau Chief for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education in 2005. Deputy Secretary Ward is responsible for ensuring that issues important to women and minority veterans remain a priority in the planning and implementation of public policies. Ward’s primary goal is to increase the utilization of available services at the federal, state and local levels by women and minority veterans. She was appointed to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee for Women Veterans in September, 2008 and will serve as chairman of the committee’s health sub-committee in 2010.
